POSITION OBJECTIVE
Focuses on one or more specific scientific endeavors of the laboratory as directed by the Principle Investigator. Utilizes unique, advanced skills in achieving the highest research goals. Develops new experimental procedures and publishes research results. Initiates and conducts independent experiments without direct supervision. Will assist with the management of routine laboratory operations. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department. This position will work with animals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Devise and implement complex new protocols for the analysis of cellular and molecular immunology involving both preclinical murine models as well as clinical-derived samples.
Initiates and conducts experiments, with proper data analysis.
Keeps comprehensive, accurate, organized and legible records of experimental procedures and results.
Presents and publishes research results.
Interacts with other laboratories both internally and externally to the institution to develop an awareness of other research areas.
Analyze all data and co-author research manuscripts with lab research teams
Conducts literature searches and generates date for the development of grant proposals.
Serves as an advisor and provides mentorship to other researchers in the conduct and analysis of research studies.
Maintains lab safety protocols and safety regulations adherence.
Develops laboratory protocols necessary for both human and animal research
Management of laboratory operations and the instruction of laboratory personnel.
Anticipates laboratory needs and maintains equipment, and conducts all ordering for the efficient operation of the laboratory.
Participates in orientations and teaching basic laboratory techniques to trainees at all levels including high school students, undergraduates, graduate students, medical students, residents, fellows and junior faculty. NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists in recruitment of laboratory personnel. Reviews potential applications and interview applicants.
Educational and philanthropic presentation. Assists in providing laboratory tours and presentations to promote the research performed at the institution.
Attends relevant seminars and demonstrations
Coordinates the scheduling of personnel and ensures coverage. CONTACTS
Department: Continuous interaction with departmental staff including members of the Huang and Letterio Laboratories and other personnel within Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and University Hospitals. Regular interaction with the clinical research associates (CRA) involved in research samples.
University: Frequent interaction with members in research laboratories.
External: Occasional interactions with donor supporting the research. Provide research updates and tours.
Students / Trainees: Continuous interactions with Graduate Students, Summer Students (undergraduate, high school), Residents, Postdoctoral Fellows, and junior faculty. Will provide general laboratory supervision on a daily basis.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Direct supervisory responsibility includes the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such actions. List the job titles of the direct report under supervisory responsibility (refer to organization chart).
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant and productive postdoctoral research associate experience is required.
Ability to initiate and conduct experiments with no supervision. Advanced laboratory skills. Ability to direct and train other laboratory personnel. Education/Licensing:
A Ph.D. in an appropriate scientific field is required. Degree/experience in immunology, molecular and tumor biology would be preferred. REQUIRED SKILLS
Ability to initiate and conduct experiments without direct supervision.
Knowledge and understanding of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the fields of molecular and cellular immunology, tumor immunology and cellular & molecular biology.
Ability to perform flow cytometry, cell-based assays, PCR, Western blotting, processing of primary samples both human and animal.
Advanced skills in developing and performing multi-color flow cytometic experiments.
Ability to operate laboratory equipment including the Attune NXT flow cytometer, ChemiDoc XRS+, Victor X4, TapeStation2200, CFX96, FSX100, AutoMACS Pro, GentleMACS.
Works efficiently to manage concurrent projects.
Develops new experimental procedures.
Duplicates experiments from the research literature.
Utilizes institutional resources appropriately.

Must demonstrate compliance with CWRU animal research and care (ARC) policies and procedures and compliance to regulations of the Animal Welfare Act, Public Health Service Policy, AAALAC guidelines and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
Must demonstrate compassion for animals within CWRU facilities and dedication to the Animal Resource Center’s mission. Must handle animals with care and respect at all times.
Previous experience working with animals required.
Must be able and willing to maintain a high standard of personal cleanliness and utilize protective gear to protect the health of the animals. WORKING CONDITIONS
Case's animal facilities are accredited by the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) and is managed according to the "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals” appropriate Federal Animal Welfare Regulations, and the Public Health Service “Policy on the Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals."
