Job Summary:
The Associate Vice President (AVP), Student Data and Success supports APUS by developing, coordinating, and implementing university and department strategic initiatives related to persistence, retention, student feedback, and the use of actionable data. This position analyzes and reports on data related to the progress and success of strategic persistence initiatives and drafts recommended strategies to finalize recommendations for action. The AVP facilitates interdepartmental communication and collaboration, and maintains all documentation related to interdepartmental work within relevant initiatives. The AVP is the University’s point of contact for gathering student feedback through thoughtful design of surveys and is responsible for managing and reporting student feedback collected via multiple methods including, but not limited to, roundtables, focus groups, listen and learns, surveys, and polls. Research findings and feedback received are shared with university stakeholders in order to continuously evaluate and promote continuous improvement.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conducts researches, compiles, and analyzes data to prepare reports and other documents to assess success of initiatives addressing persistence and retention, student/alumni feedback, and student success-related projects
- Provides persistence, retention, student success, and student feedback reporting support as needed by various university teams including Deans and Department Chairs
- Maintains the Student Success Center resources through coordination with stakeholders reviewing content for accuracy and relevance quarterly. Update resources as needed.
- Coordinates across the University to develop and finalize deliverables to satisfy submission requirements established by project obligations with external partners
- Maintains Faculty Connect and intranet content related to student persistence, retention, and student success applications
- Produces, edits, and reviews published communications regarding persistence and retention projects, including Faculty Connect content, stakeholder reports, and reports for external parties
- Plans meetings, roundtables and workshops for students, faculty, and/or staff, creating and sharing materials associated with department and university initiatives addressing persistence, retention, and student success
- Analyzes data related to persistence and retention actions across departments (from dashboards, metrics, etc.) and provides institution leaders with reports of progress towards institutional persistence/retention goals, as well as early alerts for data outside of normal limits
- Ensures data is up-to-date and analyzed for reporting to university leadership and Board of Trustees
- Develops documents and mechanisms for tracking and reporting metrics, and crosswalks and benchmarks data associated with persistence, retention, and student success needed by university leadership
- Serves as university contact for student and faculty survey content; analyzes and reports on survey trends to support strategic initiative goals while adhering to best practices
- Oversees all aspects and data security associated with the University’s survey software
- Analyzes survey response rates and identify areas for improvement and potential solutions
- Oversees annual survey plan to include coordination of both internal and external survey deployment in an effort to prevent survey respondent fatigue
- Partners with survey POCs university-wide and Strategic Analytics and Research to assess the need for data dashboards and define how (and by whom) those dashboards will be used
- Remains current on industry standards and best practices
- Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree required
- Previous experience in higher education preferred
- Experience with project management, data, research, and assessment required
- Advanced skills with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Experience with persistence, retention, student success issues in higher education preferred
- Experience with power BI or Tableau preferred

Compensation and Benefits:
- American Public University System seeks to offer a competitive salary and benefit package.
- This is an exempt position which pays a minimum annual salary of $95,000 annually based on experience.
