Job Description:
The Department of Chemistry at Iowa State University is searching for a qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate. This Postdoctoral Research Associate available within a project on developing modular catalytic reactors for upcycling of single-use plastics to lubricating oils. Research activities will be conducted under the supervision of Dr. Aaron Sadow and Dr. Wenyu Huang as part of a multi-investigator interdisciplinary project. The position requires the completion of a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or related field. Experience in the design, construction, and optimization of high-pressure, high-temperature flow and batch reactors is preferred. The position collaborates with the supervisor and other PIs within a recently funded project by the U.S. Department of Energy; designs and implements modular catalytic reactors; invents, performs, and conducts investigations; interprets the results; presents and defends research at professional and project meetings; and drafts manuscripts for publication with collaborating co-authors. The successful candidate will be working with an interdisciplinary group of researchers from two national laboratories, one university, and one industry partner. Therefore, excellent communication and cooperation skills are important for success. This Postdoctoral Research Associate is a one-year appointment with opportunity for renewal.

 
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in design and construction of benchtop and/or floor standing reactors for heterogeneous catalysis.
Experience with high-pressure, high-temperature batch and flow mode reactors.
Experience with LabVIEW programming for reactor operation.
Experience with analysis and identification of chemical molecules.
