JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The College of the Liberal Arts -- Research Office is seeking a highly skilled professional for the position of Proposal and Award Generalist Level 2. This person will provide pre-award administration services, with a strong emphasis on research grant proposal development and submission.
This person will be responsible for, or assist with, the administration of policies and procedures concerning the preparation and development of proposals and contracts for funding sponsored programs as follows:
Review grant solicitations, analyze and process proposals, contracts, and grants from various federal, state, local agencies, private corporations, and foundations.
Advise principal investigators (PIs) and staff on interpreting and adhering to sponsor and University guidelines and regulations.
Assist in modifying procedures to meet frequently changing regulations and University policies.
Develop, finalize, and/or approve proposal budget and cost share; prepare budget justification, required forms, representations and certifications, and obtain cost share approvals.
This person will serve as a liaison between sponsors and other University offices on behalf of PIs and staff.
Experience with complex and multifaceted grants is preferred, and we welcome candidates familiar with federal agencies’ policies and guidelines. This person will provide a variety of grant-related services to the principal investigators (PIs: consisting of faculty, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and undergraduate students), and staff, and they will report to the Director of Grants and Contracts.
The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), and strong interpersonal skills, and they must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment as a team player. The ability to multitask and respond professionally to PIs in challenging situations is essential. The ability to prioritize among multiple projects is a must. In addition, successful applicants must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
Education and Experience: This position typically requires an Associate’s degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Penn State’s ACOR Certification and Education Series (ACES) program graduate preferred. Working knowledge of University Financial System, SIMS (Penn State’s budgeting system), MS Office programs Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and various proposal submission websites is preferred.
