Located in the College of Engineering, the NC State University Industry Expansion Solutions is a major component of the state’s economic development efforts. By diffusing engineering, science, technology and knowledge to North Carolina business, industry, and public agencies, IES enhances client quality and productivity. This is accomplished by utilizing professional education and technical assistance that meets clients’ needs.
Essential Job Duties
This position requires travel within North Carolina throughout the work week. Candidate can be located anywhere in North Carolina.
1. Technical Service: This position provides technical assistance to (1) clients seeking certification to IATF 16949 (Automotive Quality Management), (2) clients with existing certification to the standard seeking additional training in the implementation or auditing to the standard (3) clients requiring assistance in performing internal audits to the standard. This position also provides training and coaching on quality core tools such as FMEA, PPAP, APQP, MSA, SPC, and Control Plans. This assistance to clients requires coaching, facilitation, curriculum preparation, IATF standards interpretation, and the ability to identify a solution that the client can own & maintain. This work is performed under the University guidelines for agreement. In some cases, the technical service provided may be to support IES or university overall goals.
2. Facilitation: The ability to facilitate face-to-face & virtual meetings and coach clients on management system requirements is necessary for success. Listening to the client, understanding their current business system and future needs, and keeping an open mind to multiple paths to achieve goals is key. This position requires the ability to effectively present in both informal and formal learning settings.
3. Leadership: This position may provide leadership for one or more products or services in IES. Must maintain a good level of awareness of all IES programs, industry needs, trends, and best practices.
4. Promotion: This position promotes the entire range of IES services to support the client. This is achieved through on-site visits, client/partner networking, and presentations.
5. Economic Impact: This position supports the efforts to administer an objective evaluation system that measures the impact of IES programs to the economic benefit to the clients and to the state. The position supports both the survey process and the production of annual or other reports of program impact that is distributed to stakeholders at the federal, state, and local level.
6. Administration: This position has administration duties that include providing scope of work for proposals, entering project information and updates into SalesForce, submitting travel expenses, scheduling, and other normal business reports. This position is required to attend necessary meetings and travel as required by the client, IES supervisor, and Executive Director.
7. Instructional Design: This position may also be required, at times, to assist with the restructuring of existing training material and the design and development of new training material using best practices in adult learning techniques. This is most often accomplished using Microsoft Office tools (i.e. Word, PowerPoint).

Minimum Education and Experience
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of professional training and experience in Automotive Quality.
Other Required Qualifications
- Proven experience working in automotive quality, quality core tools (i.e. FMEA, SPC, APQP, PPAP, MSA, and Control Plans), and process engineering is a requirement.
- Experience with implementing or supporting the implementation of automotive & quality management systems with a working level knowledge of IATF 16949 is preferred.
- The ability to coach clients and facilitate training is necessary for success. A proven track record of accomplishments is required.
- Must show an exceptional work ethic and a willingness to travel regularly throughout the state of NC, including overnight travel. High proficiency in the use of a personal computer is required.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously is necessary. The physical ability for a wide range of activities is needed, such as standing, driving, walking, room setup, etc.
- Ability to obtain a NC Driver’s License within the first 60 days of starting. This position requires travel within North Carolina throughout the work week. Candidate can reside anywhere in North Carolina.
- Experience with implementing or supporting the implementation of automotive & quality management systems with a working level knowledge of IATF 16949 required.
