Job Summary
- Under the direction of the Institutional Marketing and Communications Creative Services Assistant Director 3, and in a team environment, the Project Manager 1, Graphic Designer & Art Direction, oversees and is responsible for large-scale design projects for the college. Includes the production and design of the bi-annual SLCC Magazine, the college’s recruitment viewbook, annual financial report, kits, and materials for the college’s development efforts, among others.
- Proficient in use of infographic software and advanced infographic design skills. Ability to interpret and communicate data for presentation graphics and digital storytelling.
- Creates designs for the production of institutional publications, marketing/communication collateral, advertisements, signage, and other print and digital materials. Used to promote the College and relay institutional messages to students, community, business, government, and donors.
- Works in a team environment in cooperation with faculty, staff, and administrators from various areas of the college. Produces creative designs for publications and the web including setting production timelines, attending production coordination meetings, inputting updates according to client needs, and completing approval processes. Provides photography and photo manipulation/enhancement for producing print-ready and electronic files. Oversees printing and delivery processes of graphics projects providing the web team with versions of design files for digital signage. Provides online delivery and use on website and blog. Completes management reporting and training, as required.
- Operates proactively in meeting project goals, developing strong working relationships and improving departmental processes.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Plans and produces creative designs for institutional publications, marketing/communication collateral, advertisements, and print/digital materials that communicate and promote institutional messages.
- Ensures compliance with institutional branding, quality, and regulatory guidelines.
- Responsible for the visual style, images, and other key institutional publications.
- Oversees the work of other designers to determine which artistic elements to use, how to best represent concepts visually and in alignment with the college’s brand protocols, and how to best articulate the desired vision and aesthetic that optimally represents a desired strategy or outcome.
- Reviews and approves designs, photography, and other elements of design projects as they move through the creative studio and throughout the various stages of the design process.
- As needed, coordinates activities with other artistic and creative departments, including freelance designers and design partners outside of the college, and presents final designs to clients and college partners for review and approval.
- Maintain active project files, digital asset libraries, and photo archive files.
- Creates metadata tagging and search engine features.
- Utilizes said assets to create activity slides for website calendar of events and blog attachments.
- Completes management reporting as required.

- Assists and mentors junior designers and design/photography interns as needed.
- Provides training as needed.
- Develops appropriate and effective visual communications, both internally with SLCC staff and faculty, and externally with potential students, business, and government audiences.
- May provide photography or illustration creating and maintaining a college photo/graphic archive that is used for current events and for the long term, that is organized and accessible by the web team, publications team, and other departments on campus.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with photography preferred.
Experience with PC and Mac operating systems also helpful.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Art, Graphic Design, Marketing, Communication, or related field.
- One (1) to three (3) years of direct experience in the following areas:
1) Desktop publishing;
2) Adobe Creative Suite publishing software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat;
3) Visual design.
Proficient in use of infographic software and advanced infographic design skills.
Portfolio required.
Trade off 2:1 in experience/education requirements.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to interpret and communicate data for presentation graphics and digital storytelling.
Ability to proofread quickly and accurately.
Ability to function pro-actively in a team environment and independent of daily direct supervision.

Excellent visual design skills with a thorough knowledge of the principles of effective layout and graphic design.

Experience developing publications and/or marketing/communication collateral material, including design development, versioning and quality control.
Experience coordinating competing priorities and personalities, working with cross-functional teams, and managing client relationships.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite publishing software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat.
Experience using infographic software to create advanced skills infographic designs.
Experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint software.
Experience designing/converting files for various electronic media outlets.
Experience leading one-on-one or group training.

Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Assist/mentor part-time designers and interns.
Special Instructions
Salt Lake Community College will complete a background check on the selected finalist.
Application must include a portfolio of graphic design work.
Finalists will be asked to complete a simple graphic assignment to bring to the final interview.
