Summary of Position
Under the administrative supervision of designated supervisor, advise students in course and major selection, requirements for selected area of concentration, and post-college plans. Assist students in setting academic goals, course planning and career development. May work with individual students or groups. Assist with recruiting initiatives and represent the COLSA Dean’s Office in several academic/student related activities.

Advising
- Support students as they explore educational and career options
- Explain academic policies, procedures, and curriculum to students to meet their educational goals
- Guide student course selection and scheduling
- Assess student needs and make referrals to university supports and resources
- Maintain appropriate student records and document student interactions
- Ensure confidentiality of student records
- Identify and monitor student academic progress
- Contact and advise students with early alerts indicating academic challenges
- Help students identify and resolve obstacles to academic success
- Participate in workshops that bring university supports and resources to our most challenged students
- Support faculty mentors/advisors in understanding academic policies and curriculum requirements to ensure students meet their educational goals
