This is a casual (per-diem, non-benefited), varied shift, temporary position with an end date that coincides with the end of the final semester of the student's nursing program. The selected student nurses will work in the position during their last semester of their nursing program and must have a graduation date of December 2024.

Our Student Nurse Extern positions are designed for students interested in joining the Scripps Health ICU or Maternal Child Health Transition Program as a New Grad RN. Candidates will be able to select their specialty and location preference as part of the application process. You will work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in providing care to patients and continue to grow your nursing skills. Work on a high acuity and fast paced unit - "learn by doing" with every patient, colleague and technology interaction.
Student Nurse Externs (SNEs) collaborate with the other members of the patient care team to ensure optimal patient care. Patient care includes initial and routine assessments, planning and implementing a plan of care, and evaluating patients' progress towards expected outcomes. Work collaboratively with other members of the patient care team to ensure optimal patient care.
Upon successful completion of the extern experience, and once licensed, you will join the RN ICU or Maternal Child Health Transition Program (dependent on your track) starting in early 2025.

Important Information

  • Positions will be offered for Fall Semester 2024, and those selected must have a graduation date in December 2024 (no exceptions).
  • Must be available to complete the week-long Scripps New Employee Orientation prior to the semester start.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university's RN program with completion of Med/Surg II and Fundamentals of Nursing, in final semester or year of the program, and graduating December 2024
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider
  • Must be able to speak, read and follow instructions in English, excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate positive behaviors
