Summary of Position

Keene State College invites applications for a Case Manager to serve as direct support to the Assistant Dean of Students in the area of Community Standards and will manage multiple tasks while fulfilling the strategic goals as established by Dean of Students Office.

The Case Manager is responsible for administration and management of Community Standards processes, will review cases, assist in distribution and adjudication of cases, and will work to support all Community Living Hearing Officers.

Additional responsibilities include: providing non-clinical case management and intervention for students presenting to Dean of Students Office, or arising with concerns through CARES (Concern Awareness REsponse Support) reporting & BIT (Behavioral Intervention Team). Under the direction of the Dean of Students Office the Case Manager coordinates critical support for students by triaging referrals, coordinating and tracking interventions to KSC students in need of support and guidance as they navigate inside and outside of the classroom. Concerns range from mental health issues, financial hardship, interpersonal concerns, academic challenges, and struggles to meet basic human needs, etc.. The Case Manager works closely with CARES program administration to guide students toward tools and resources necessary to support their continuing collegiate journey and works collaboratively with multiple departments on campus to offer guidance and support to students to foster success.

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant work in higher education, student conduct, counseling, conflict resolution, social work, preferably in Student Affairs.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and crisis management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment; with continued commitment to bettering the campus climate and culture.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others and foster professional relationships within a complex environment of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Proven ability to make decisions and determine appropriate next steps to follow process and procedure while minimizing risk.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle communication of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, balance multiple priorities, and to complete projects successfully both independently and as part of a group.
  • Working knowledge of software applications including but not limited to MS Office, word processing, database management, video conference, and ability to learn operating systems such as Colleague, EAB Navigate, Maxient, Workday, and other new computer applications, systems and changing technologies.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with one year of relevant work in higher education, student conduct, counseling, conflict resolution, social work, preferably in Student Affairs.
  • Additional years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in adjudicating student conduct cases, case management, behavior threat assessment, serving on Behavior Intervention Team, CARES, or other.
  • Demonstrated experience in counseling, coaching, mentoring, communication, critical thinking, negotiation, and/or conflict management.
  • Comprehension of college student development theory and ability to apply knowledge in practical practice with respect to the student and College, with an emphasis on serving underrepresented populations in collegiate environments (i.e. students of color, first-gen., sexual orientation).
  • Experience with de-escalation and working with people in crisis or distress.
  • Experience partnering and developing relationships with community resources both on and off campus.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to work proactively.
  • Experience with one-on-one support, risk assessment, internal/external referrals, creating and presenting trainings/education.

Duty/Responsibility

Community Standards
  • Responsible for the case management of Community Standards reports in Maxient, which includes identifying potential policy violations, Clery violations, assigning a Hearing Officer, and reviewing outcome letters.
  • Serve as the appeal officer for Community Director level cases.
  • Serve as a Hearing Officer for cases that may result in Deferred Suspension, Suspension, or Expulsion.
  • Review best practices in Community Standards related to due process, student-centered approaches, sanctions, and assessment.
  • Maintain a robust understanding of State and Federal Law that impacts the work of Higher Education Community Standards practices.
  • In collaboration with leadership, assists in the development of strategic plans and initiatives, including policy and procedure update and regularly assessing all programs and services the office provides.
  • Provides training to all members of the community including but not limited to new students, Community Assistants, Community Directors, Campus Safety, and Hearing Board Members.

Duty/Responsibility

CARES Case Management
  • Provide advocacy, guidance, support and resources to students, and their support systems, who are inquiring to or referred to the Dean of Students Office (most often through CARES referral)
  • Meet with students individually to assess needs and apply resources and engagement on campus in effort to assist student and College community
  • Provide intake, assessment, non-clinical counseling/problem solving on a wide variety of student concerns and policy issues.
  • Work closely with CARES Team and Incident Coordination / Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), including aspects of program administration
  • Assess and triage potentially high risk and sensitive issues in an appropriate and professional manner. Issues may include self-harm, harassment, assault, homelessness, depression, sense of belonging and self
  • Determine need for and create notification to faculty/staff regarding student absences and/or other concerns. Provide notification to Dean of Students and leadership when determined necessary
  • Conduct mandatory assessments as directed by Dean of Students Office (i.e. SIVRA35)

Duty/Responsibility

Administrative Support and Marketing
  • Respond professionally, compassionately, and timely to student/faculty/staff/guardian emails, phone calls and outreach
  • Track student cases (i.e. Maxient, EAB Navigate, Colleague, Canvas, SharePoint) including correspondence, meeting notes, etc..
  • Maintain high degree of confidentiality of administrative decisions and documents
  • Develop and maintain procedures for internal procedures
  • Respond to outreach from community, faculty/staff, and guardians following FERPA to support assistance provided to students
  • Provide regular updates and reporting on cases and workflow
  • Collect, analyze and interpret data regarding caseload for CARES, BIT and DoS Office
  • Identify potential solutions with consideration for KSC policies. This requires a working knowledge and familiarity with College policies and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain updated materials to for Community Standards, CARES, DoS Office resources, protocols, and reference materials for students as well as those for faculty/staff
  • Provide consultation and training for students, faculty and staff in use of CARES program, tools and resources available to students on and off campus
  • Participate in outreach events, campaigns, and individualized information to promote awareness of CARES case management, available services and programs through DoS Office, and how to request assistance/make referrals for self or others
