Job Description

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Business Management will serve as the creator, preparer, and developer of online courses and related materials as specified by the Asynchronous Graduate and Undergraduate course development process. Subject Matter Experts work collaboratively with Program Directors, Instructional Designers, and the Director of Online Learning to prepare materials including, but not limited to, syllabi, instructor notes, concept introductions; learning objective specifications, instructional content presentations, learning activity descriptions, and assessments.

Selected candidates will serve on an ad-hoc basis and would be considered “work for hire”. Applications are accepted continuously and will be reviewed when openings become available.

This position solely creates, prepares, and/or develops online courses. If Capitol Technology University wishes to retain the services of the SME to teach the course, a separate written agreement will be entered between the parties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

As the Subject Matter Expert, you will work closely with your assigned Instructional Designer to develop eight-week asynchronous courses. You will use a predetermined course template, format, and guidelines from the Online Learning Department. Content due dates will be established between you and your Instructional Designer during your initial planning meeting. In the case of a course update or re-development, the Online Learning Director will identify which of the elements need to be updated. Course-level and weekly learning objectives are required in every course.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Updating the course syllabus which requires the course description exactly as it appears in the Capitol Technology University Course Catalog;
  • Providing a brief overview of the course and its main components so that instructors who teach the course will have a sense of its design and how best to teach it;
  • Introducing weekly overview concepts;
  • Specifying learning objectives identifying what students should be able to do after the course/module/activity is concluded;
  • Gathering instructional content for learners, such as online resources, visuals, videos, presentations, etc.; so that instructional designers can produce multimedia elements – all content will be required to be accessible for students with disabilities
  • Describing learning activities to reinforce key concepts;
  • Creating assessments including formative and summative evaluations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Business Management, or MBA
  • 3-5 or more years of professional experience is required.
  • 2-3 or more years of Online Teaching and Learning experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral or Terminal degree in Business, Business Management or related areas
