Position Summary

 

Salary: Based on education and experience commensurate with Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule D1 ($45,676-$92,513). This is a nine-month position. Summer employment may be available (an additional $14,102-$28,612) dependent upon enrollment.

This is a full-time position with administrative and teaching responsibilities. The Director of Clinical Education is responsible for providing quality classroom and laboratory instruction, and all aspects of the clinical experiences of students enrolled in the program, including organization, administration, continuous review and revision, planning for and development of locations (with appropriate supervision) for evolving practice skills, and the general effectiveness of the clinical experience. This position reports to the Director of Respiratory Therapy (Program Director).

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the mission and goals of the community college system, the college, the accrediting body, and the Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Schedule, coordinate, supervise, and monitor all Respiratory Therapy student clinical assignments; must have regular and consistent contact with students, clinical faculty, and clinical affiliates at all sites.
  • Actively participate in curriculum development and review.
  • Demonstrate and maintain a high level of competence and expertise in the teaching field and subject area.
  • Teach courses as assigned by the Program Director and design and deliver each course ensuring an effective learning experience.
  • Submit to the Program Director a course plan for each course taught in accordance with college guidelines.
  • Provide instruction for Respiratory Therapy courses in the day, evening, or online as required.
  • Implement effective and comprehensive use of current technology and respiratory care equipment in instruction.
  • Inform students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance requirements, and academic progress.
  • Provide for effective evaluation of the learning experience of each student.
  • Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submit them according to announced deadlines.
  • Participate in institutional and departmental planning and assessment processes.
  • Assist with obtaining and meeting program accreditation requirements.
  • Comply with all accrediting body standards and assist in developing and maintaining a quality program.
  • Demonstrate effective people skills, communication skills, and work ethics .
  • Participate in recruiting for the Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Maintain all aspects of the clinical experience for program students.
  • Assist the Program Director with developing and managing the departmental budget in support of institutional goals and mission.
  • Advise students regarding academic course offerings as assigned.
  • Seek continuous improvement of the Respiratory Therapy Program curriculum, instruction, and resource.
  • Serve on college committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or President.

 

Qualifications

 

Education: Baccalaureate degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) required

Master’s degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) preferred

Experience: A minimum of four (4) years’ full-time experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care required

A minimum of two (2) years’ full-time experience teaching at an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor required

License: Must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current state license (Must show proof of valid/current RRT credential and state license), required
